Banned Books Week was first launched in the 1980s in the United States. In this week, the entire book community - libraries, readers, educators, authors, publishers, and booksellers gather together to commemorate the way books have brought freedom to people and its influence on American history and civilization*.
一年一度的“阅读自由周”于本世纪80年代在美国兴起。该活动吸引了图书馆工作者、读者、教育工作者、作家、出版商及书商等群体的参与，旨在强调自由阅读在构建精神世界和推动美国历史文明进程中发挥的作用*。
On the morning of September 23, as soon as the students entered the gate of the school cafeteria, three rows of bookshelves caught everyone's eyes. After checking the titles of these books, the students couldn’t help but ask: why are our beloved books such as Harry Potter, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Wizard of Oz, To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men, etc. being banned today? The promotional poster of “2024 Banned Books Week” and the introduction beside the bookshelves lifted the veil: it was the school library that planned to take the Banned Books Week as an opportunity to introduce and promote the reading of great classic English literature works at our school.
9月23日一早，同学们步入学校餐厅大门时，便被餐厅内特别设置的书架吸引了眼球。同学们发现书架上摆放的都是大家耳熟能详的优秀经典英语文学作品，如《哈利波特》、《查理和巧克力工厂》、《纳尼亚传奇》、《绿野仙踪》、《杀死一只知更鸟》和《人鼠之间》等。通过书架上方的巨幅“2024阅读自由周”海报以及一旁的活动宣传海报，大家了解到：这是校图书馆老师精心策划的“2024阅读自由周”。该活动旨在通过独特的陈列方式引起同学们的兴趣，让大家在好奇心的驱使下关注和阅读更多优秀经典英语文学作品。
When the students moved to the dining tables, they found cards posted on each table, introducing the various reasons why the books that they had just seen on the bookshelves had been challenged and even banned in American history. Combining with the knowledge learned in the classroom and their unique reading experiences, students expressed their own opinions towards these once-challenged or banned English books. Via discussions with peers and teachers, students not only gained a further understanding of American history and English literature, but also budded interest in reading more books.
当学生移步餐桌准备用餐时，发现每张餐桌上都摆放着一个特殊的“餐牌”。阅读“餐牌”上的信息后，同学们了解到了书架上的经典文学作品曾在美国历史上遭受质疑甚至一度被禁的种种原因。他们一边用餐，一边结合课堂上所学的知识和亲身阅读体验，表达自己对这些曾在美国历经争议的书籍的看法。通过师生对话和同伴交流，大家对美国历史和文学有了更深入的理解，也燃起了通过阅读这些书籍一探究竟的热情
