On the morning of July 12th,Dr.Koong received an email that filled her with immense pride and joy—a notification of certification from the IBO officer.
From now on,VPA is officially an authorized IB PYP school!
The International Baccalaureate(IB),as the most widely recognized international curriculum system by universities,has an extremely intricate authorization process.
Applying to become an IB school involves four stages:Consideration Phase,Application for Candidate School Status/IB Decision on Candidate School Status,Candidate Phase,and Application for Authorization/IB Decision on Authorization.
Typically,for a newly established school,it takes 3-5 years to meet the curriculum standards and implementation requirements of the International Baccalaureate Organization(IBO)from the time it becomes a candidate school to receiving authorization.
VPA achieved PYP candidate status in December 2022 and received PYP authorization in July 2024.As a new school,successfully obtaining IB PYP authorization in less than 2 years is indeed a cause for celebration!
The swift recognition from the IBO can be attributed to Victoria Educational Organization's extensive experience in the IB field and VPA's dedicated and professional teachers.
22 Years IB Teaching and
Research Experience
In 1998,Dr.Koong began leading a team to research and introduce the IB curriculum.In 2002,Dr.Koong introduced IB PYP education to China,making Victoria(China)Education Group the first educational group on the Chinese mainland to offer IB PYP early childhood programs.
In 2005,VPA's sister school VSA obtained IB PYP authorization.Kindergartens in Shanghai,Shenzhen,Suzhou,and Hangzhou were among the earliest in their respective localities to achieve IB certification.
From 2002 to 2024,under Principal Kong's leadership,Victoria(China)Education Group has been deeply committed to IB research and education for 22 years.
From researching IB curriculum to implementing localized approaches,Victoria(China)Education Group has accumulated rich experience in educational research and teaching.It is on this foundation that VPA obtained official authorization for IB PYP in less than 2 years.

East China Normal University,Master's degree in Comparative Education;18 years of experience in international education.Trained in Hong Kong in 2010 to become an official IB PYP trainer and evaluator,conducting B training and carrying out PYP accreditation and supervision visits in multiple locations since 2012.Trained in Singapore in 2016 to become an official IB PYP consultant,assisting candidate primary schools and kindergartens in becoming authorized IB schools.Served as Co-Chair of the PYP Organization in the East China region from 2015 to 2017.

Professional IB PYP curriculum
Over the past 2 years,the school's teaching team has rigorously developed the curriculum around the PYP framework.
By integrating the essence of both Eastern and Western cultures,VPA provides its students with continuous and stable high-quality education.
During the accreditation process,Ms.Annie Chew,the head of the IB visiting team,and team member Ms.Li Yanjuan assessed VPA's readiness for IB PYP accreditation.
They engaged in discussions with VPA's leadership,teachers,students,and parents over the course of July 2-3.
The accreditation visiting team highly praised VPA for its achievements since its establishment,especially noting the staff's dedicated involvement with students and the high engagement of students and parents in school development.
Annie Chew,the head of the visiting team,remarked,"The achievements made by Victoria Park Academy Shenzhen in the past two years are impressive."
Although VPA has officially become an IB school,it will continue to deeply explore the IB PYP curriculum under IB supervision.
Additionally,VPA will commence MYP accreditation in September to provide maximum academic assurance to its students.

Mossflower Reading and Writing Program

Like its sister school VSA,VPA utilizes the Mossflower Reading and Writing Project founded by Lucy Calkins at Columbia University's Teachers College.This project,with a history of over 35 years,originates from the United States and has been integral in developing English language skills through comprehensive reading and writing methods.Lucy Calkins,the project's founder,served as a professor at Columbia University's Teachers College for over 40 years,specializing in literacy education and children's literature.
Under the support of Lucy Calkins and the Mossflower Reading and Writing Project,VPA aims to stimulate students'imagination and expression through innovative curriculum design and motivational activities.The goal is to cultivate students into outstanding communicators and critical thinkers,making English reading and writing a natural habit that they embrace and excel in.
At VPA,the English classes employ a tiered teaching approach to ensure each child receives personalized education.EAL teachers offer in-class and separate English support courses.
VPA places a strong emphasis on reading,providing students with the RAZ and MyOn English reading software,with a requirement for at least thirty minutes of daily English reading.Additionally,VPA actively promotes whole-book reading programs and conducts monthly reading and writing activities to foster students'reading abilities.

The Pathway
Since the establishment of the first mainland kindergarten to the completion of VPA today,Victoria(China)Education Group has been dedicated to creating the most professional and cutting-edge educational pathway for students and parents.
Children from Victoria Kindergarten can interview directly for admission to VPA to continue receiving IB education.
Furthermore,to provide better academic support for children and help them achieve better academic results in the IB DP stage,VPA will also introduce IGCSE courses in Years 9-10,allowing students to experience more international examinations earlier.
